Noisy Planet is a website funded by the National Institutes of Health through the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communications Disorders. It was created to promote healthy hearing habits to parents and preteens.

I have written many times in this blog about the detrimental effects of ear buds and MP3 players on hearing, as well as the alarming increased incidence of hearing loss in adolescents. As the holidays gear up and parents eye new devices to purchase as holiday gifts—and as families come together to share time with each other—I wanted to tell parents and grandparents about a terrific resource to help preserve young people’s hearing.

Noisy Planet is a website funded by the National Institutes of Health through the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communications Disorders. It was created to promote healthy hearing habits to parents and preteens. The site includes a wealth of information on how parents can help protect their kids’  hearing, live Twitter chats with experts on noise-induced hearing loss, a Tweenzone with fun facts (did you know cicadas can make as much noise as a rock concert, at a sound level reaching over 90 decibels?) and more.

Be sure to check Noisy Planet out before your next family gathering or holiday shopping spree. At the very least, you will have fun reviewing the website with your kids and may even learn a few pointers for preserving your own hearing.

It's a Noisy Planet. Protect Their Hearing.
