For every person who takes the online pledge, HealthyHearing.com, an online hearing health resource, will donate $1.00 (up to $10,000) to the Healthy Hearing Foundation in support of research to prevent and cure hearing loss. Please visit Hearing Health Foundation to take the pledge.
Every May, Better Hearing and
Speech Month draws attention to hearing and speech disorders, the need for
testing, and the importance of treatment that can help those who have
difficulty with their speech or hearing. Approximately 17 percent (36 million)
of American adults report some degree of hearing loss, and about two to three
out of every 1,000 children in the United States are born deaf or hard of
hearing, according to the National Institute on Deafness and Communication
Disorders.
In addition to AAO-HNS,
campaign partners include: the Academy of Doctors of Audiology (ADA), the
American Academy of Audiology (AAA), and the American Speech-Language-Hearing
Association (ASHA).
