It’s A Completely New Type of Hearing Aid.
Imagine a small lens that is placed on your eardrum and uses light to directly activate your natural hearing system, resulting in rich, complete sound. By using sound to vibrate the eardrum directly, it can enhance the sound significantly over what conventional hearing aids can do.
Why We Are Excited About It.
Unlike traditional hearing aids, which are in effect tiny speakers that turn up the volume on air conducted sound, the Earlens is the world’s first hearing aid to use light to transmit sound.
This is a completely new hearing technology, different than anything you may be reading about or seeing in newspapers, direct mailers, or online. It is truly unique and uses new technology to provide direct sound delivery that potentially opens the door to a level of sound performance achieved by no hearing aid on the market today.
What are the Benefits?
- Natural Sound – the Earlens Hearing Aid has the broadest frequency range on the market, which means more natural sound.
- Minimal Feedback – the Earlens converts sound to light, minimizing feedback at the source (no more whistling hearing aids which can be both painful and embarrassing)
- Improved Speech Understanding – Because the Earlens provides a richer sound experience, it is easier to understand people in noisy environments and participate in group situations, which is sometimes a limitation with conventional hearing aids.
- Music Fidelity
How It Works
The Earlens System includes a small, custom lens that is placed on the eardrum and a behind-the-ear processor that receives sound and relays it to a widely vented in-ear light tip. The light tip converts sound to light and delivers this light to the lens. The lens then directly activates the natural hearing system. This approach, which is designed to prevent the typical feedback loop that troubles traditional amplification, is intended to allow Earlens to achieve high gain values across a broad bandwidth (125-10,000 Hz).
